Multiple Effect Rocket System (MERS) Infrared Illumination Rocket, 1000m
Smokeless burning of the rocket propellant results in minimal signature at initiation combined with no visible signature throughout flight providing concealment from detection of launch.
APPLICATION
Providing enhancement of infrared image intensifiers such as night vision goggles during combat or surveillance situations in darkness.
Flight tube design and induced tail spin provide high level of accuracy. The store architecture requires no stored energy in the initiator. Twist. Initiation provides for both left & right hand operation.
OPERATION
MERS incorporates a 3 stage safety system comprising of:
1. Turn twist initiator clockwise from Safe Position “S” into Armed-Position “A”. This action unlocks the twist initiator allowing it to be pulled in axial direction.
2. Pull twist initiator from Armed-Position into Firing-Position “F”. This action unlocks the twist initiator allowing it to be rotated clockwise or counter-clockwise.
3. Twist initiator clockwise or counter clockwise to fire the rocket.
Provided the twist initiator has not been rotated, MERS can be returned to the safe condition.
